SCENE STUDY FOR ACTORS
INSTRUCTOR: DENNIS O'DONOVAN
Weeks 1-6: October 13-November 24, 2018
Weeks 7-12: January 12-February 16, 2019
OVERVIEW: This class will serve as a survey of several major acting methods and disciplines, with a primary focus on learning and preparing scenes from plays as a way of practicing and reinforcing them. The class will consist of lectures, discussions, exercises, rehearsals, director and peer feedback and ultimately – performance. A strong focus of the course will address how an actor prepares for a role.
The class will take place over a twelve-week period, with more than half of that time devoted to rehearsing scenes in preparation for a showcase performance. The performance will be optional for participants (although highly encouraged) with an audience of friends and family of the students who will be asked to pay a nominal admission fee.
COST: The fee for the course will be $125, payable prior to the start of classes, and breaks down as $10 per session and a $5 administrative fee.
WHO MAY ATTEND: The course is open to experienced and beginning actors. Actors who have not previously performed at A.C.T. will be required to have an interview with the instructor and may be asked to perform a pair of one-minute monologues – one comedic, the other dramatic. Beginning actors who need assistance in choosing material for their audition will receive assistance in identifying suitable monologues. Class size is limited to 12 participants.
REQUIREMENTS: The only requirements of this course are: attendance, openness and a positive and supportive attitude. The course is in no way intended to be competitive – a key element of a successful show is a spirit of camaraderie among cast and crew members.
